Sports in Prairie Gateway
In Prairie Gateway, there are many different sports teams, and events all across the region! In the summertime you can find ball games happening at the baseball diamonds, pickleball and basket ball at the new multi-court, and golfing at all 3 of our golf courses!
In the winter, you can find mens, ladies, and mixed curling nights across the region at the different curling clubs, pickleball at some school gyms, and hockey games at the rinks!

In 2011, a group of local investors purchased the Winnipeg Saints Junior “A” Franchise and relocated the team to play in the newly built Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Their inaugural season was held in 2012. Since that season, the team has made the playoffs most years with their best seasons being 2017-2018 and 2022-23 when they made it all the way to the Turnbull Cup Final.
The Virden Oil Capitals have become a huge part of Virden’s culture. The Oil Caps are an integral part of the community and offer great entertainment throughout the winter months.
In June 2020, the Virden Oil Capitals organization fully transitioned to being run as a “Not-For-Profit” organization.
The foundation of the team was always about giving back to the community and surrounding area.
