This two-storey wooden residence in the village of Kenton was built in the early 20th century by local businessman Leander Lawlor. It is one of the few well-preserved buildings remaining from the village’s Establishment-era history. Lawlor was a longstanding Kenton businessman and built many local residential and commercial buildings including his own house. The six modest bedrooms on the second-floor help tell the story of its time as a boarding house. This type of house was important to the development of early 20th century prairie towns, where a boarding house provided temporary or longer term residence for those newly-arrived or in transition. The house is now a community museum, tours of which are by appointment only.
